Westland American Single Malt Cask No. 901 (Cream of the Crop) - Mash & Journey & Keg N Bottle Private Barrel Pick 750 ml

About This Item

OVERVIEW:

On September 2, 2021, The Mash and Journey Whiskey Club was joined by Chris Riesback of Westland Whiskey and The Whiskey Crusaders to pick this rare cask strength 8-year-old America Single Malt! Westland's signature American Single Malt Whiskey is a culmination of over 10 years of pioneering a new category of whiskey that has put America on the global single malt map out of Seattle, WA.

This single cask, #901, stood out immediately by combining 5 different malts aged in first-fill new American oak bottled at a proof of 123 and quite possibly one of the first casks ever filled by Westland.

BARREL DETAILS:

Cask 901 5-Malt, New American Oak First Fill
Barrel Filled 12/05/13, Dumped 02/22/21 (7 years, 81 days)

TASTING NOTES:

  • Nose: Chocolate, coffee bean, peaches and cream, blueberry and strawberry, tobacco, leather, raisin with a signature maltiness.
  • Palate: Chocolate fudge, all-spice, coffee, leather, strawberry, a bit of salt, peach cobbler, spicy and savory finish that lingers.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

Overall it’s such an interesting balance of sweet, spicy, and savory flavors that gets tied all together with chocolate, coffee, and leather. A stunning example of what American Single Malt is capable of being. It’s the Cream of The Crop with a Screwtop!
