Hogback Distillery Oak & Aspen Straight Bourbon (Huckle Bearer) - Oak & Thieves & Keg N Bottle Private Barrel Pick 750 ml

Hogback, who’s ever heard of that? That was the reaction James has to one of our members when they said he had to try it.  We had been at The Podcask Whiskey Weekend Batch 4 for 3 days and were approached with numerous whiskies we just had to try.  To say the least, we weren’t very excited about the proposition of another. Super glad I caved and tried this specimen.  This single barrel, pot stilled whiskey finished in Oak & Aspen blows the pants off of most of the pours we had sampled that weekend. James immediately traded for this bottle and proceeded to drink most of it before letting Greeze take a gander.  We knew when we went home we need to get a hold of one of these barrels. After a couple weeks of communication, the fine people at Hogback Distillery sent us 3 samples and we wanted all, but decided on this caramel sexual beast. 

Barrel #32, 61.8% ABV, 123.6 Proof, Secondary finished in Oak & Aspen staves.

• Nose:  She smells good, a nose that smacks you in the face. It has a fresh note that I have to assume comes from the Aspen wood. Reminds me of a fruity/minty 4R.
• Taste:  It has the pot still funk that we are starting to love more and more. Caramel bomb with a fresh mint.
• Finish:  It finishes strong, it just hugs you all the way down.
