Domaine Rene Leclerc - Bourgogne Rouge

Overview: Domaine Leclerc (est. 1962) is a historic 20-acre vineyard in Gevrey-Chambertin, and consists of some of the finest vineyards in the appellation. The vineyards are renowned for their exceptional age, typically 50-80 years old. René makes traditionally-styled wines with sustainable farming, ambient yeasts, and low yields, allowing the grapes to find their balance of ripeness and acidity, before being lovingly harvested by hand.
He emphasizes the fruit character of his wines through a short pressing (three hours in contrast to the 10-hour pressing typical of the region) and judicious use of new oak (typically this means as little as he can get away with). No fining or filtering is used during bottling. The resulting style of the wines is pure and intense, yet elegant. These wines are great examples of an authentic representation of Gevrey-Chambertin, made by a true Burgundian.
Tasting Notes: Nose of very ripe red berries, even stewed. Subtle and discreet woody touch thanks to a barrel aging in the previous years containing the Domaine's other appellations. On the palate, very nice attack on ripe fruits. The wine continues on a beautiful tannic frame built on sweet and silky tannins. The very ripe harvested grapes sometimes express an elegant note of licorice. Terroir Burgundy requires, a nice acidulous balance sweet taste and gives a touching relief to the finish.
