Dr. Loosen - Blue Slate Kabinett - Riesling
Description
Overview: Loosen Bros. (“Gebrüder Loosen” in German), is Ernst Loosen, of the renowned Dr. Loosen estate, and his younger brother, Thomas. Together, the brothers work with small growers throughout the Mosel region to source fruit for the wines, which are vinified by the same highly skilled cellar team that produces the Dr. Loosen estate wines. Very strict quality standards require that the growers improve their viticulture in order to sustainably grow the healthy, perfectly ripe fruit that Ernst and Thomas want for these wines.
This classic Mosel Kabinett is light, fresh and juicy, with a crisp finish. The fruit for this wine comes only from parcels with blue slate soil, which is the most typical type of slate in the Middle Mosel valley. Rich in potassium, this soil provides vital nutrients to the vines and gives the wines a pronounced mineral edge.
Tasting Notes: The wine is bright and pure with the vibrant white peach fruit and a floral, flinty minerality that is so typical from blue slate. A plush attack on the mid-palate leads to a deliciously firm, delicate finish.
Pairing: This wine makes an elegant aperitif and is an excellent match for seafood, spicy Asian cuisine and lighter dishes.
