This gin was released by the award-wining Notting Hill bar, Portobello Star, home of the Ginsitute. This is a place where one can learn an awful lot about gin, so you would expect Portobello Road No. 171 to be rather good, and indeed it is. It's an old-style London Dry Gin, containing traditional botanicals and spices, that harks back to the gins of yesteryear.
Nose: Hot white pepper and heavy berries with plenty of juniper.
Palate: Well-integrated spice, again with a healthy dose of juniper. Soft lemon grass flavours with a hint of red berries.
Finish: Dry, fresh and cleansing citrus.
Overall: An excellent, no-nonsense gin that deserves to be a back bar staple.
