One of our favorite parts about the new year is all of the limited-edition rare liquors being released – and 2019 is no different! There’s a slew of delicious new options coming out this year (some are even being released early for preorder), from whiskey and bourbon to special edition “Game of Thrones” themed scotch. Whatever your poison is, there’s something for you! Here’s our roundup of the best-limited edition liquors to look for in 2019. Happy new year!
Suntory Old Whisky Limited Edition 2019
Suntory Old Whisky is a series of whiskeys from Suntory, first released in 1950 when it was considered the ‘classiest’ of all of Suntory’s whiskeys. It still holds its own today, as most people are pleasantly surprised when they try it; and this particular bottle is being released to celebrate the Year of the Pig 2019. The whisky has a scent of marmalade and varnish, with somewhat faint earth and undergrowth notes. The taste reminds us of caramel, with grainy harshness and plastics peeking through; although it is somewhat suppressed. This bottle comes with an original box.
Johnnie Walker Blue Label “Year of the Pig” Limited Edition
This limited edition “Year of the Pig” Blue Label Scotch by Johnnie Walker is sure to please any scotch lover! The bottle was designed by English illustrator Chrissy Lau, whose illustrations are inspired by her Chinese heritage and are instantly recognizable by her signature delicate lines and intricate patterns. Johnnie Walker’s Blue Label is an intricate blend of handpicked single malt and grain whiskeys from the four corners of Scotland, creating a velvety smooth and vibrant Scotch Whisky that delivers layers of dried fruits, citrus smoke, honey, sweet spice, and vanilla.
Disaronno Amaretto Trussardi Limited Edition
For the 2019 New Year celebrations, Disaronno is ready to amaze again with a brand-new Limited Edition: “Disaronno Wears Trussardi.” This is another collaboration between the Italian lifestyle/clothing brand Trussardi and Disaronno liquors, and the bottle is a beautiful, handmade representation of the marriage of the two brands. Trussardi's typical texture is combined with the Greyhound monogram and the unmistakable shape of the Disaronno bottle, with fuchsia, green and light blue brush strokes framing the signature label. This is a great piece to have in your home, as the bottle itself is gorgeous, but the velvety smooth taste and finish of the amaretto is reason enough to purchase this limited edition liquor.
Barrell Bourbon 2019 New Year Limited Edition
To celebrate the New Year, Barrell Bourbon has created a New Year 2019 Limited Edition. This bourbon whiskey is comprised of reserves from some of their batches and other choice barrels, coming from six distilleries in six different states. Throughout the year they set aside particularly inspiring barrels that they believed would make a unique contribution to the New Year release, and they tested dozens of blends to find the right combination of flavors. Each year is surprisingly different, with variable flavor notes and finishing tastes that makes it fun to try and collect the new release each year. According to their website, 2019’s release is characterized by mostly sweet notes; dried fruits and nuts, chocolates, and harmonious blends of herbs and spices.
Macallan Concept No. 1 Limited Release
Macallan has announced its brand new ‘Concept’ range for 2019 that centers around “breaking the norm with “innovative production techniques.” The first expression in the series, Concept No. 1, is Macallan’s first double-aged single malt and has “flipped maturation on its head” by aging the whiskey in Sherry-seasoned casks first before moving to ex-Bourbon barrels. The whiskey has spent the same amount of time in both barrel types, but Macallan has not disclosed the length of maturation. For the limited release, Macallan set aside 68 casks, which is the equivalent of up to 84,000 bottles. Concept No. 1 will be released in North America sometime this January, so stay tuned!
Johnnie Walker “Game of Thrones” Single Malt Scotch Whisky Collection
Game of Thrones fans, rejoice! Johnnie Walker has just announced the release of its new “Game of Thrones” Single Malt Scotch Whisky Collection. Inspired by the iconic television show, the limited-edition scotches are here just in time to hold fans over for the long-awaited final season of “Game of Thrones,” airing in early 2019. “White Walker” by Johnnie Walker is the first available offering from the limited-edition scotch collection. A small team of expert blenders innovatively combined a mixture of single malts from some of Scotland’s northernmost distilleries, where whiskeys have endured long, harsh winters. The special blend features notes of caramelized sugar and vanilla, fresh red berries, and orchard fruit. The scotch is best served cold for taste, but there’s another reason fans should freeze the bottle: a secret message will make an icy reveal once frozen!
