American Whiskey
What makes American whiskey American whiskey? First, it must be made in the United States from a fermented mash of cereal grains, which can include corn, rye, wheat, or malted barley. The mash must be distilled at less than 80% alcohol by volume (ABV) and aged in new, charred oak containers. The minimum aging requirement varies depending on the type of whiskey: bourbon, rye, straight whiskey, or corn whiskey.
