Fritz Haag - Estate Riesling - Mosel
Description
Overview: The Fritz Haag estate is a historic family winery that dates back to 1605. The Haag family farms 29 hectares (72.5 acres) of vineyards in the heart of the Mosel Valley. They produce only Riesling, covering the full style spectrum, from dry to lusciously sweet. A intense “slate” character and a pronounced, fruity acidity give the wines their elegant sophistication and their great aging potential. The estate’s graceful, well-defined Rieslings are universally lauded as examples of the finest wines the Mosel region has to offer.
This Estate Riesling is made in a slightly off-dry style that perfectly balances Mosel Riesling’s typically crisp acidity. The grapes are sourced from two steep, slate dominated vineyards, Brauneberg and Mühlheim which are found within the Fritz Haag property in the Mosel. The vines range in age but overall they are on the younger side.
Tasting Notes: Aromatically the wine is flinty with notes of juicy ripe white peaches and nectarines. On the palate the wine is overall juicy, with matching ripe orchard fruit flavors and a salty minerality that lingers.
Pairing: Goat cheese and thyme soufflé
