This is a fruity style of rye, with sweet tropical flavors almost akin to juicy fruit flavor gum. It's balanced by the rye trifecta of cinnamon, clove and nutmeg, ending in a vanilla finish. Pleasant to taste a youngish micro distillery rye that doesn't taste too green or hot, but ends smoothly.
Produced by Congenial Spirits at Cedar Ridge Winery and Distillery in eastern Iowa, Five Rye is named for the date of Repeal Day (December 5), 1933. The design of the bottle is a nod to Prohibition-era "medicinal whiskey," which was available by prescription only. It's made from 70% rye, 15% malted barley and 15% corn, aged a minimum of 2 years.
