Kokomo - Zinfandel - Dry Creek Valley
Description
Overview: The Zinfandel used for this bottling comes from two different vineyards: Mizany Vineyard and Pauline’s Vineyard. Mizany Vineyard is planted to the DuPratt clone of Zinfandel and the site is a field blend comprised of Zinfandel with a 5 % blend of Carignan, Alicante Bouschet, and Petite Sirah. Pauline’s Vineyard is planted to the old mother-clone of Dry Creek. This vineyard is on the valley floor in the famous Cortina gravelly loam. The wine ferments in open-top fermenters before barrel aging for 11 months in 20% new oak.
Tasting Notes: Thick, muscular and concentrated, this soft, richly layered red is a study in jammy cherry and berry, lavender and black pepper. The oak is prominent and supportive, adding notes of vanilla and toast.
Pairing: Lamb and rosemary rigatoni
