Paul Hobbs - Pinot Noir - Russian River Valley
Description
Overview: The Russian River Valley Pinot Noir is composed of a various clonal selections (115, 777, 667, Pommard, 114, 113, Swan, 2a) sourced from sites with various exposures and soils including Sebastopol Series.
Hand-harvested at night with shears only, the grapes are hand-sorted while still cold from the field. The juice is fermented in small, open-top stainless steel tanks with indigenous yeasts with 10-15% whole cluster inclusion. 5-day cold soak, 15 day maceration. Gentle punchdowns. Spontaneous malolactic fermentation occurs in barrel. The wine is aged 9 months in French oak barrels; about a third new, from select coopers: François Frères, Cadus, Louis Latour, Billon, Leroi, Remond, Taransaud, and others. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Tasting Notes: This is a classic Russian River Pinot, boasting ripe black cherries and black plums, rather soft acidity, and a warm, soothing texture of fine-grained tannins. While easy to enjoy now, it has the balance and concentration for further aging.
