Tonight’s dram takes me (virtually) to 117-degrees west to the 117º West Spirits distillery in Vista, California.
Their signature single malt, distilled from local barley, opens with dark caramel, oodles of barley malt, dark brown sugar, and dark chocolate; followed by heavy vanilla, cola, dark syrup, cinnamon, and toasted oak; finishing with rum-soaked raisins, espresso, graham crackers with strawberry jam, and black molasses. Everything about this dram is dark and sweet – it could use some balancing, but if you have a sweet-tooth, this is your dram.
