Description

Overview: Loosen Bros. (“Gebrüder Loosen” in German), is Ernst Loosen, of the renowned Dr. Loosen estate, and his younger brother, Thomas. Together, the brothers work with small growers throughout the Mosel region to source fruit for the wines, which are vinified by the same highly skilled cellar team that produces the Dr. Loosen estate wines. Very strict quality standards require that the growers improve their viticulture in order to sustainably grow the healthy, perfectly ripe fruit that Ernst and Thomas want for these wines.

This dry Riesling is produced with fruit from estate-owned vineyards in the red slate soils found in the contiguous Middle Mosel villages of Ürzig, Erden, Lösnich and Kinheim. Following the traditional methods of Ernst Loosen’s great-grandfather, Peter Loosen, this wine is fermented in 3,000-liter, neutral oak casks and kept on the full lees for 12 months. The extended lees contact stabilizes the wine naturally and gives it time to develop a harmonious balance

Tasting Notes: An intense minerality that is warm and enveloping. It has floral, spicy, citrus blossom aromas and harmonious flavors with a full, expansive texture. Very expressive.

Pairing: White fish

Points: 91, James Suckling

Format / ABV: 750 ml / 12.0%
