Overview: Red Schooner Transit is a red blend that is intense yet nuanced, with notes of vibrant fruit and a refreshing hint of mint, stemming from native Eucalyptus trees. Just like our Red Schooner Malbec is known by each "voyage" that produced it, this wine is also not vintage-dated, but known by a sequential “transit.”
Transit is a Grenache-Shiraz-Mourvèdre blend with a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon. Future Transits will continue in this style, while featuring slight differences as we continue to refine the blend. Each spends about 2 years in barrel, a blend of new and neutral French oak so that the wood does not overpower the fruit. What these wines will all share is our focus on holding on to their Australian origins while adding our own Caymus-style twist.
Tasting Notes: A deep, regal magenta, this wine features layered scents of dark, ripe fruit overlaid with vibrant notes of strawberry and raspberry. Leather, black pepper, vanilla cream and mint add further complexity on the nose. The palate starts off round, then tannins build before the freshness of strawberries creates a lively smoothness. On the finish: the rich character of baking chocolate, cherry and toasty wood.
