Liquid Farm - White Hill - Chardonnay
Description
Overview: Liquid Farm was founded in 2009 by old world wine enthusiasts Jeff Nelson and Nikki Pallesen, who preferred the lower alcohol, cooler climate and more terroir-driven characteristics of European wines to the riper, fruit-focused, higher alcohol levels found in many new world wines. They focus on specific vineyard sites known for earthy, mineral-driven Chardonnay from the cool climates and ancient soils of California's Sta. Rita Hills in Santa Barbara County.
The Liquid Farm winery debuted in the 2009 vintage with just two barrels of White Hill Chardonnay. Styled in the manner of Chablis, the White Hill is a racy and mineral-driven bottling sourced from select vineyards planted on the diatomaceous soils of the Sta. Rita Hills. Though each vintage varies in makeup, the fruit predominately comes from Clos Pepe, with the following percentages of Kessler-Haak, and La Rinconada. The wine was barrel fermented in neutral oak and stainless-steel barrels for ten months
Tasting Notes: Meyer lemon, river rocks, chalk, and white flowers. Full of energy and bright acidity but with a very satisfying round mouthfeel.
Pairing: Sushi, raw oysters, crudo, ceviche, steamed mussels, Sole Piccata
Points: 92, Jeb Dunnuck
Format / ABV: 750 ml/13.0%
